NEW CASTLE, PENNSYLVANIA, June 17 — Seton Route pilgrims on the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage are often asked how much they walk with the Blessed Sacrament.
Their total journey is 1,200 miles from New Haven, Connecticut to Indianapolis, Indiana. While the pilgrims themselves would love to walk the entire distance by foot, sometimes the Dioceses they traverse prioritize, for example, parish visits for adoration over Eucharistic processions, and the pilgrims are happy to accommodate.
Sometimes, also, because of safety and timing considerations on particular routes, local Church officials suggest that the best way is to transport the Eucharist is in the Pilgrimage's support van, which is specially fit with a tabernacle and a tabor (stand) for the monstrance so that adoration of the Lord can continue even while driving.
On other occasions, pilgrims travel by boat!
We thought it would be of interest to readers to know what type of mileage the feet of the pilgrims have put on the roads until now each day.
